My research focuses on structural biology and biochemistry of protein targets and their application on drug development against human diseases. I have used X-ray crystallography to feed collaborative Structure Guided Drug Design (SGDD) projects targeting the essential aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) of human pathogens. My previous experience in parasitology and cellular biology has been fundamental in facing new challenges in my research as a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University. I am fortunate to be involved in a new SGDD effort now involving G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) using single particle cryogenic electron microscopy (Cryo-EM). My goal is to bring my broad experience and cutting edge technologies into new exciting drug discovery adventures especially in the parasitology field.
